I am an obvious foreigner in my not homeland country.
Which has a few consequences :
- People can easily tell I was very very probably not born here
- I still speak with mistakes
- I send parcel to foreign countries because I have friends and family there.
Those three consequences also have another consequence :
- People at my nearby postoffice know me. All of them.
They know I always ask for nice stamps, they know I don't fill out the online form because I was never able to do it, they know I try to find a safe but not too expensive way to send things.
Last time I sent a parcel to a friend in Germany and apparently in Europe they decided on some more stupid rules about ...
- First it was listing everything in the parcel
- Then listing the items with the price (which is great when you send presents)
- Last they decided on codes for each item and you have to find the codes and write that down also.
That's when I was pushed too far into wasting time.
So that one time I had to send a parcel in germany I told the guy of the post office that I don't wanted to do it. That I was bored. That I was just sendin a gift for my friend who had a baby and they have scanners probably to check there is no bombs so as long as it's safe they have to stop bothering people.
The staff told me how it was the rule.
"- It's okay ... I just want to send it simply without all the forms and files and codes
- But it might come back without being delivered.
- It's okay. I don't want to comply to stupid rules anymore. I have been doing the process so far but it's just too much now. I won't comply with abusive rules."
The staff tried to convince me but I told them I opposed stupid systems (and that we have to stand against stupidity) so they complied.
So today I went to the post office to send another parcel. All the staff turned around when I entered. I just smiled and waved at those faces I recognize well now.
They smiled and asked me :
- Did the parcel reach your friend ?
My smile got bigger :
"- Yes ! It worked. (Common sense is not dead yet)
- So the easy way was possible !
- It's not about easiness it's about protesting." I joked
They all laughed, we joked a bit more, and then we prepared the next parcel together.
It was nice to share this with them somehow. It's like having some more profound history, since it's about society's problems, sharing the adventure and having them being supportive.
They might remember me a bit even later on.
That's my sun for the day.
